Project Brief

For this project I need to produce a promotion pack for a new film. My main product will be a film teaser trailer which will be backed up with a poster advertising the film and a magazine front cover featuring the film. To do this I will research and analyse each type of media looking at examples and exploring the importance of the individual components. I will document my progress on this blog.

Cast and Crew

We have now settled on how we plan on producing the trailer. I shall be the once filming while the other two members of my group Chloe and Jasmine will be acting along side a good friend of ours, Craig. Chloe will be playing the character of Lilah while Jasmine will be playing Kimi and Craig will obviously be playing Steve.

Animated Run Through

We had a fair bit of fun with this one. We hunted down some soundtracks and music that suited the trailer and decided to draw it out before fully filming. We tried to stick to our shot plan in a very basic way. We missed out a fair few shots but kept the important bits in to show how the music would hopefully work with the teaser trailer.

Character Development

Today we have started looking further into our characters to create personalities and start to further shape the plot of the trailer. First we have our main three characters Kimi, Steve and Lilah who are best friends. The first character we plan on introducing is Kimi, who will be the one who finds the key. We have made Kimi into a couragous curious character, she seems desperate for adventure. She is also the most open minded character of the three and finds accepting the existence of zombies much easier than they do. Steve is a very level headed character who portrays mainly strength and leadership, he doesn't believe Kimi's story at first and has little concern over the key or the map. Lilah is very similar to Steve only tires more easily of Kimi's stories, Lilah is a problem solver and thrives on logic and common sense and therefore finds it even harder to accept the zombie.

Up Date!

In our group we have now decided we would like to use a pirate styled zombie as our villain to add a bit of edge and quirk to the genre. We also previously decided on three other characters who would serve as our main characters. Being an adventure we can't advertise the whole production as being plain sailing so we plan to show some form of inter-friend conflict during the trailer as well as the appearance of the villain. Hopefully this will insert a bit more drama and create a more exciting plot to appeal to our audience.

Initial Planning

We've started our planning by coming up with a rough plot and given a bit of thought into the characters, props and voice overs.
The initial idea seemed to sprout from a range of thoughts on genre and audience. Jasmine came up with the paragraph -
"You are the one with the legend!
You are the one with the power!
You are the one the story chose!
You decide your destiny!
You have : The power of the key!"
We all agreed this fit our adventure genre as it talks about power, legend and destiny, three key concepts to the adventure genre. We also found it pretty much laid out a plot for us because the idea of having a key obviously linked us to the idea of having a door or something to unlock. We needed to insert a villan of some kind to add interest and from there we had a story!
